DAY 335/365: One of the things that you can count on in in Vietnam is roadside pork. It comes in all kinds and style, and it’s almost always ridiculously good! My advice if you manage to get here and aren’t freaked out by the food scene, is to eat as much roadside grilled meat as possible. #ilovevietnam #vietnamtraveltips #porkbelly #lifeinvietnam #vietlife #vietnamstreetfood #hanoistreetfood #hanoifood #vietnamexplained #xuhuong@CURIOUS ABOUT VIETNAM

DAY 289/365: The Vietnamese men take every opportunity to 1-Mot, 2-Hai, 3-Ba, CHEERS-Do, with their friends. Today their opportunity is a holiday call’ed ‘Reunification Day’, which is when Vietnam was reunited again as one country, after the fall of Saigon in 1975. #ilovevietnam #vietnamtraveltips #mothaibado #vietnamexplained #vietnamwar #americanwar #lifeinvietnam #vietnamlie #expatvietnam #vietnam #vietnameseculture #xuhuong

DAY 243/365: I haven’t learned everything since I’ve been here, but I know this much. Places that look like this, are usually TOP NOTCH. This incredibly kind couple have been running this Pho shop in Saigon for decades. You can’t get much more authentic than this for Pho in Vietnam. I am a lucky man… #FYU Tôi Yêu Việt Nam! 🤠 #vietnamtraveltips #vietnamtravel #saigonfood #saigonpho #realvietnam #vietnamlife

DAY 214/365: Tet 2024 was filled with fun times, food, drink, family, and some of my favorite Vietnamese friends.. AND Karaoke!! Lots and lots of it, and LOUD!! I’m going to need a couple of weeks to recover from this break from regular programming. 🤷♂️😂😇 Tôi Yêu Việt Nam! #vietnam #realvietnam #bestofvietnam #tet24#vietnameseculture #hellovietnam #travelvietnam #ilovevietnam #vietnamese #vietnamexpat

DAY 291/365: Overall…. 8-10. I could get used to this, even if it takes twice as long to get home. A designated driver is never a bad idea, even if she is half of your weight and doesn’t love to ride in Vietnamese traffic. #ilovevietnam #vietnamtraveltips #hanoitravel #hanoifood #vietnamexplained #vietnamlife #realvietnam #lifeinvietnam #expatvietnam #vietnam #vietnameseculture #xuhuong

DAY 297/365: Vietnam is a constant barrage of visual attacks. Just when you think you’ve seen just about everything, something new happens, or you stumble into a new scene. It never quits. Even daily life is so much more interesting than where I’m from. The people here are ALWAYS outside, making life happen. I LOVE to be visually stimulated. To me it’s one of the most amazing parts about living in Vietnam. #ilovevietnam #vietnamtraveltips #onlyinvietnam #vietnameseculture #saigontravel #saigontr

DAY 102/365: Most foreigners are unaware of Vietnam’s ethnic minority groups, or tribes. There are 54 ethnic minority tribes across the country, most living in the difficult mountainous regions. These people live primarily off the land as famers or craftsmen, making all kinds of colorful hand-dyed materials which are very popular with the tourists. They also have their own languages and cultures and live in symbiosis with the largest ethnicity in Vietnam which is the Kinh people who make up 85%

DAY 323/365: Wandering around Hanoi is a little bit like visiting Rome. It’s difficult to go almost anywhere in the city, and not bump into a piece of cultural history. From pagodas & temples, to relics of war, and defense structures such as city walls and gates. Witnessing historic artifacts of days gone by is one of the things I enjoy most about living in Hanoi.#ilovevietnam #vietnamtraveltips #visitvietnam #vietlife #hanoitravel #vietnamesehistory #hanoitraveltis #travelvietnam #realvietnam #

DAY 247/365: I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but I almost never leave my apartment without seeing something that is intriguing to me. Today it was a makeshift alter graveyard under a bridge, in the middle of Saigon. The Vietnamese people are very spiritual and respectful of their ancestors both alive and after death. They’re also very superstitious, so there are many things to learn about cultural respect and expectations as I stumble my way through this incredible country. Tôi Yêu V

DAY 329/365: Vietnam unlike America has far less if any zoning regulations. That means you will see businesses right beside, or even inside houses. Unlike where I come, low income communities in Vietnam do not automatically mean, dangerous or crime-ridden. That makes for some interesting scenes and also the ability for the wealthy and non-wealthy to intermingle. I’m a fan of this look, it’s much more interesting, but I can see how it might be considered unorganized and in ways disadvantageous by

DAY 181/365: This is the truth about Vietnam… It’s LOUD! I’ve been trying to figure this one out, but I don’t think I have it dialed in just yet. I suspect it might be partly from Vietnam being an ‘outdoor’ culture. Everyone is always outside in this country, so it makes sense that the Vietnamese culture would adapt to an ‘outside voice’. Whatever the reason, it’s not unusual to encounter LOUD things here and there.. Some of my favorites are street vendors using loud speakers to sell food. Store

DAY 170/365: Flan was most likely introduced to Vietnam by the French, but I’m not 100% on that. However it got here, it’s flourished and has become a staple of Vietnamese dessert culture, all across the country. This spot in Hanoi is the cities largest seller, and is a great scene to people watch. There are few things that taste this good in all of Vietnam. SUPERB! DAY 143/365: This is one of the greatest things about Vietnam. I don’t honk I’ve ever been anywhere that has as many types of mobile street vendors as Vietnam. Not even close, actually. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… this could be the last generation of street vendors that will carry, push, pedal, or ride their products around the cities trying to make a living. Once they’re gone, the genuine Vietnam will go with them. These people are what make this place so interesting and fun to e

DAY 271/365: If you’re an American and you really can’t do without some of your ‘mouth comforts’ from home, you’re in luck! L’s Place in Hanoi has at least two locations, one of them VERY accessible in the Old Quarter. There, you can get all kinds of goodies to satisfy your cravings. And after a wander through both stores, I’m beginning to wonder if these prices are on almost on par for what they are back in the USA? But how can that be possible? Anyone…??? #ilovevietnam #vietnamtraveltips #junk

DAY 249/365: There’s ALWAYS something interesting going on in Vietnam. Today it was a street-side shoe repair business that was ran by a group of young-ish men. These guys were super busy and focused on fixing shoes, sandals, boots, etc… They were all very kind and didn’t mind me sitting down for a few minutes to check out what was going on. Independent street businesses are the lifeblood of this up and coming economy. If they didn’t exist, this whole country would be far less interesting. If yo

DAY 307/365: One of my all-time weaknesses is Coca-Cola (Coke Zero), I must admit. So this is one topic in Vietnam that I know with certainty. If you’re a fountain soda snob, you are going to struggle through your visit to Vietnam. If you just NEED a soda fountain drink, you can find one at Mc Donalds, KFC, or Burger King. Outside of those places, you are going to be hard pressed to find a soda machine anywhere in this country. The same goes for Diet Coke and Coke Zero. Both can be difficult to

DAY 213/365: One of my very favorite things about Vietnam is the everyday contrast you see in daily life. Today it’s the contrast in cafe’s. The old places that serve the working class and the new places that extract the wealth from the upper and middle class. These places make specialty coffees and are mostly independently owned, although there are some chains that I’m not going to name. The coffee scene here is extremely developed and runs the gamut from low-cost to ultra hip and high-end. If

DAY 312/365: One of my favorite things to do in this country is wandering through the small alleyways in the big cities. They call them NGO in Hanoi, and HEM’s in Saigon. It’s a condensed microcosm of Vietnamese life really. There are all kinds of small businesses and lively scenes of the locals going about their normal days. It’s a great way to get a snapshot of regular life in Vietnam, and to find some incredible opportunities like this one. On reflection, I should have gnawed on a foot, but I

DAY 253/365: I love discovering hidden food gems in Vietnam. This Sugar Cane drink vendor has been serving Vietnam’s most popular juice drink for 65 years. That’s actually kind of insane if you think about it. What’s even more insane is that they’ve been doing it from an outdoor food cart all of that time. It’s hard not to be a fan of independent small businesses in this country. Without them, this place would be a lot less interesting, and there would be far less amazing stories to tell. Tôi Yê

DAY 244/365: Saigon has a very diverse food scene. You can find foods from all around the world, but none is more prevalent than Chinese food. If you are visiting Vietnam and are a fan of Chinese food, make sure to visit Chinatown in Saigon. It’s massive and has some amazing places to eat. One of my favorite spots is this wonton noodle soup place in the vid. This place absolutely PUMPS on the weekend evenings. I would put it up there as one of my favorite eating experiences so far in all of Viet

DAY 304/365: It’s the little things that you wouldn’t even notice that largely makes Vietnam so amazing. It’s taken me over a year just to slow down enough from Western life to begin to truly ‘witness’ this country. There is a lot of history that is still unknown to me, but the common theme seems to be struggle. It wasn’t that many years ago that it was somewhat difficult just to feed yourself and your family. So when you come across a cultural gem like this, you begin to realize how much the st
