If you'd like at least one wharncliff blade look for pattern called "hawbaker" In that kind of pattern the spey / clip is replace on one side with a long wharncliff. I just found one on e-bay under "wharncliff". A really pretty Robeson muskrat "hawbaker" . A. G. Russell also sells one in Ats-34.

Feb 24, 2022 · It is interesting! I can see why the 14 pattern was suggested due to the length. I do feel it has a definitely "swell end jack" look to it though, despite it being longer than 3 1/4. The 14 pattern looks a little slim to me. Like both ends are roughly the same size. And, definitely agree about the "1/2" part of the pattern.

Feb 7, 2015 · How necessary is it to install metal cross wedges over the wood wedge when installing an axe handle? I'm in the process of putting new handles in two axe heads. I put carpenter's glue on the wedge surfaces before driving them in. I'm letting the glue dry over night before trimming the handle off flush with the top of the head.

A bolster collar is normal, but not required.On ceremonial sgian dubh, the collar is often engraved or patterned. Handles may vary with taste, and a small stag crown is also authentic. Mounting a small scottish coin in the crown end is nice.
