Oct 7, 2010 · Still working on my ATV 220 bayou and want to know how to set the timing mark on the camshaft sprocket. Must the dot on the sprocket pointing up ( 12 oclock) or down ( 6 oclock)? Also how do i know how ive got the right TDC?

Oct 27, 2008 · It should be the T...if not look for a mark that says TDC, or even sometime a l. If really in doubt, pull #1 plug, and rotate the motor by hand until the valves are all closed on #1, and with say a lastic straw in the plug hole, see when its at the top.

Once you line up the "F" mark on the flywheel with the mark in the timing inspection hole, the front piston is at top-dead-center. There are also marks on the camshaft that need to be parallel with the top of the cylinder head, and the cam lobes need to be facing away from the rocker arms.

Sep 14, 2023 · TDC just means Top Dead Center of the piston...ie straight up. On one, the exhaust TDC, the exhaust valves are closing and the intakes are starting to open. At that TDC both are slightly open and we call that overlap...and you NEVER set valves there because the cam has pressure on both intakes and exhausts.

Aug 8, 2023 · When the mark & notch are lined up, the cylinder is at top dead center on the compression stroke, and the four valves are closed. Clearance can then be checked & adjusted. For the life of me, even with my inspection camera I can't see a mark on the rotor.

Mar 5, 2008 · Line up flywheel to the correct cylinder and find TDC on compression stroke right? How do I find TDC? How much resistance/drag on the feeler? you don't need it at absolute TDC. just find the spot that the valve has a deadspot (doesn't move) while turning it over.

May 8, 2008 · I lined-up the #1 mark on the flywheel to the mark on the crank case, and set the #1 cylinder valves (intake & exhaust) to 0.254mm (0.010") clearances.

Mar 6, 2013 · The method you described is an old school tried and true way to find TDC. This has worked well for ever. Depending what the shaft is made from try to put a mark on it at the point where you think it is the highest. Then rotate the engine as slow as possible by hand one way or the other until you find the highest point, TDC.
