Jan 13, 2011 · Shelf life of cannniing Foods Commercially canned food are far more stable for the long term of storage then home canned foods. There are just to mean variables in the processing. Even just considering the quality and freshness of the food before processing, commercial foods are in the can much quicker.

Mar 21, 2011 · I wheel-barreled a lot of dirt out, and I un-covered shelves that had been buried, with lots of old stuff [Phonograph wax cylinders from the 1880s, home canned veggies, and a case of home-made whiskey from the prohibition era]. Most of the veggies were still good. All of the whiskey was good.

Dec 20, 2017 · I read on this forum somewhere that corned beef hash was a good stable prep. And yes if you pick up a can every time you go to Wallymart, you'll see the shelf life is about five years. Remembering my love for the IHOP side dish, I've been buying canned CBH for about 4 years now. (One can every time I go to Walmart). But I never tried it.

Troglodad- I read that uncooked pasta and rice can be stored on the shelf in an airtight container in a dry area that is not exposed to extreme temperatures, can be stored indefinitely and still be safe to eat but the USDA recommends storing dried pasta for no more than two years to obtain the best quality.

Dec 2, 2009 · We tried some canned goods a cpl yrs ago that were 10 plus yrs old. Canned corn beef seemed fine and tasted like corned beef. made a good hash. Folgers coffee, while slightly bitter wasn't bad and would certainly satisfy the hankering for coffee after shtf. Pasta in cellophane bags, boiled up fine although was a little chewy. It tasted normal.

Jul 28, 2012 · Canned (commercial or home canned) foods are safe to eat as long as they are still properly sealed. The taste and texture go downhill over time. Nutrition does too, but it fades a lot slower than one might expect. When they tested those 40+ year old canned goods, a surprising amount of their original nutrition was still intact.

In fact, canned food has an almost indefinite shelf life at moderate temperatures (75° F and below). Canned food as old as 100 years has been found in sunken ships and it is still microbiologically safe!
