The rounded base bottle was made of thick heavy glass and used for carbonated soda, mineral water, and in particular, ginger ale. They date from the 1870s to the 1910s.

That being said, there were quite a few round bottom ginger ales produced domestically, especially in New England and New York.

Jan 11, 2022 · I found this round bottom bottle yesterday, July 4, bottle hunting in GTMO. I’m hoping to hear your opinions on this bottle and thoughts on its age. The lip was barely showing, I bent down to check it out and was amazed at this find. It was in soft sand. I believe the lip is applied. There are lots of air bubbles, and no seam.

I never knew they made turn mold bottles by turning the blown bottle while it was still in the mold - to the point of twisting lines in the top of the neck before the bottle had the finish applied. DA!!

Sep 14, 2020 · Round bottom bottles were valuable cargo, and it is unlikely that the cargo was dumped in any harbor. It might have found its way into the warehouse of an import broker for later sale. The crew was not drinking fresh water from the cargo and replacing it with salt water (except for occasional pilfering, I suppose).
