Apr 18, 2015 · Strictly speaking, a cell (cellular) phone is a mobile phone, but a mobile phone may not necessarily be a cell phone. "Cellular" refers to the network technology. A satellite phone is also mobile, but there are so few of them in use nowadays compared to cell phones that for most practical purposes (in urban areas for sure) they can be ignored.

@Mohammad: It may be that "through [telephone number]" is more common in the US. I'm British, and in general it's a bit "odd" to me. I myself would always use "on" for phone numbers. To me, "through" works with "my sister", "the office" - because they're intermediaries, but I can't see a simple number as an intermediary.
