Local variations in mechanical characteristics were correlated with changes in chemical content and microstructure across the entire depth and span of a sample.
Cuy et al. [7] used nanoindentation for mapping mechanical properties of human molar teeth enamel. They found the enamel surface hardness, HIT > 6 GPa and reduced modulus, EIT > 115 GPa, while at the enamel–dentine junction HIT < 3 GPa and EIT < 70 GPa.
