Our community will be enhanced by reconstructing I-395, including an iconic bridge over Biscayne Boulevard that will allow for the connection of Overtown, Downtown Miami, Omni, and Edgewater to each other by a contiguous trail that includes community activity areas.

Aug 1, 2023 · In the heart of downtown Miami, the arches are rising. The distinctive and iconic Signature Bridge continues to reach upward as a key element of the I-395/SR 836/I-95 Design-Build Project. Overall project completion is now expected in late 2027.
Connecting Miami: I-395 Underdeck and Heritage Trail
The Underdeck is a planned public landscape that weaves below I-395, creating a 33-acre urban open space and streetscapes that will reunite the urban fabric of Overtown, a historically Black neighborhood that was disconnected during highway construction in the 1960s.
Acknowledging the historic impact of highway construction on Overtown and Miami’s urban fabric, the project includes the I-395 “Underdeckerdeck” – a public open space, created by an innovative structural design that raises the highway and reduces columns for increased light and air.
I-395 Signature Bridge Design-Build - HDR
A signature bridge structure —The Fountain — will carry a key segment of I-395 over NE 2nd Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard and redefine the Miami skyline with its six sweeping arches. Spanning 1,025 feet across two busy downtown Miami roadways, its largest arch will soar 325 feet above the ground and measure 650 feet across.

The bridge is part of a larger 800 million dollar redesign that replaces a 1960’s era freeway cutting through the Overtown neighborhood of downtown Miami. The project’s anticipated completion is 2024. The tallest arch is 330 feet and the suspended spans are 936 feet long.
