May 8, 2004 · Reading the above, Makita 9" angle grinder seems the way to go, that said bit confused about following post (2nd above) which mentions limits on depth of cut: "Most brickies that I know use a 12" petrol cutter A 9" disc cutter is good but your depth of cut is less than a brick does work but you still have to hammer it out as well"

Jun 15, 2022 · I have a 9inch grinder with a diamond blade and you could cut deep enough from one side to break out your doorway. Howevr the best way to do this job is to just drill a few holes in each brick and use a hammer and bolster. Follow a line of joints and you only have to cut half the bricks. It is much much cleaner.

I was thinking of getting an angle grinder to cut but need it to cut 35mm deep. Will 4 and half inch cut deep enough? or would i need a 9 inch angle grinder?

I think the reason it is mainly no good is the speed, as I have a 9" grinder and this goes at 6000rpm plus whereas this chopsaw goes at 3000rpm and stone cutting blades normally want about 6000rpm, if I remember right. For 1 brick walls (230mm thick) I have used an angle grinder outside and drilled inside. Drill lots of holes and then chop along the drill holes with a lump hammer and chisel to remove the bits of block. Still get some dust but not as bad as an angle grinder.

What tool would be better for me to start the chase before the sds, an angle grinder or a multi tool? My house is a 1950s built house with solid brick and plaster.
