M2 MacBook Air charging with Apple 20w USB-C adapter
Feb 10, 2019 · My home setup with a monitor has the 20W iPad charger for the MacBook Air M2. Working great. I still have an old USB-A 12W iPad charger that could be perfect for my home setup. This would allow me to take the 20W charger for on-the-go. Main reason is to keep the Macbook charged at 80%, the charger is working.

Mar 7, 2009 · I bought a couple MagSafe wireless chargers and want to use the newest Apple 20W USB-C charger since it is picky if you want full 15W charging for iPhone 13 lines. From this thread, that charger will charge a MacBook Air 2020 with no issues when not being used and will allow charging while being used except, possibly, very high power demand tasks.

Dec 3, 2023 · I understand that USB-PD is not mandatory for USB-C. Only 7.5W (5V by 1.5A). There is an optional 15W (5V by 3A), still without USB-PD (many USB-C/TB hubs/docks have this). So it looks like this adapter only implements the optional USB-C standard. Or USB-PD is not working for some reason.

The charger and device communicate and interface with each other via a data channel to negotiate an appropriate power profile, per the USB-C Power Delivery specification. Verbatim is/was a well known brand, at least for media storage.

It‘s only $2 more than the Apple 20W charger, is about the same size, has one USB C port and one USB A port, and it supports up to 30W charging from the USB C, so it can fast charge recent iPad Pros, unlike the Apple 20W.

Nov 13, 2020 · I have an Apple branded 20w and an AT&T branded 18w and there isn’t much difference in speed to get to 80%. However it looks like the Apple 20w does a better job at optimizing after 80%. The AT&T branded 18w seems to get from 80 to 100 faster. The Apple 20w seems to trickle charge a lot more which I think is better.
