Above the medal is a five star ribbon with a large Silver Star, which could have been issued to a few different units.. Big or small I’m not sure the soldier cared. He had one.

Dec 17, 2009 · The brooch is the pin attachment, with "crimp" "wrapped" and "slot" referring to how it attaches to the ribbon. Despite what some people like to claim, most original WWII campaign medals and a large number of original WWII victory medals actually have "crimp" broaches. It should also be remembered that these medals are all by definition POST WWII.
