Why did the first layer of plexiglass Window panes crack on the Bathyscaphe Trieste while descending down to the Mariana Trench? Weren't they tested under such amounts of pressure?

Jun 27, 2023 · If so how was it emptied on surfacing and wouldn’t this seal them in? The fact that one of the windows that cracked was internal suggests this was the case. Trieste was equipped with compressed air bottles that was used to purge the flooded access trunk after surfacing.
