Put over 20,000 miles on it and im still ok. not saying it is a wise choice to get an R1 for your first bike, speaking from experience of course. but I love it. I took it to a track day at willow springs about 2 months ago and had a blast.

Oct 30, 2018 · Most were recommending an SV650 as the best choice for a first bike. What I saw was that an R1 is lighter, has better suspension and has better brakes than an SV650. So all I needed to do was control my right wrist and I have an all round better and - dare I say it - safer bike - for pretty much the same money as a used bike.

If someone has an immature throttle hand, a high revving, powerful sport bike will dramatically increase the odds of an inexperience rider to make a devastating mistake. A smaller, less powerful bike will be much more forgiving than an R1.
