NV3500 trans strength? Post up if you're using (or did use) one!
Aug 17, 2006 · some half ton chevy's actually came with the 4.3 and a new venture 3500. So if GM put that drivetrain in a big truck, i'm sure it is plenty strong in an s-10. I offroaded my s-10 stock many times and the transmission was great. I had no problems and still don't.

Mar 14, 2007 · In the case the option of a rebuild seems to be a poor choice in some of your opinions, I would like to hear what a more feasible solution would be. Other transmissions besides the NV3500 would be interesting to look into, depending on the amount of work that needs to be done to get them to fit and, of course, the cost.

Feb 18, 2016 · mine is loud and odd sounding compared to my 95's t5 trans. i know the noise you describe when you shut it off in neutral, sounds like gears that have too much play in them clacking back and forth. if i shift wrong or low rpm and it kinda chugs i can hear the gears slap around too. 1st and 3rd seem to make a tad bit of "gear whine" when lightly crusing (clutch out no throttle) 5th is dead ...

May 8, 2009 · the swap will work so long as you don't intend to beat on it too hard, the nv3500 only came behind 318's for a reason. there was not 360/nv3500 from the factory, nv3500 is rated at 300 ft/lbs tq. @ 12k lbs. gcvw a stock 360 puts out 345 lb ft from the factory.

Jan 14, 2012 · Their is not a realistic way to make a 2wd trans fit a 4wd, at least keeping the truck 4wd! The rear of the 4wd trans has provision to attach the transfer case, the 2wd trans case extends farther back. You CAN do it, but it means disassembling both transmissions and swapping the case and output shaft over.

Jan 13, 2006 · 97 S-10 Ext. cab, 2wd, 4.3L, NV3500, 105K miles. My truck has a noise that sounds kinda like a bearing going out when it idles in neutral with the clutch let out.

Sep 14, 2011 · My point was if you have to buy a transmission just get a NV3500 out of a 99-05 GM fullsize truck. Better yet get the NV4500 used with the 6.0L.

Oct 9, 2009 · Early Grand Cherokees (93-94) came with an AX-15 behind the 4.0. The AX-15 and NV-3500 are pretty much the same size, so I see no reason that the NV-3500 would not fit. This being said IMHO the AX-15 is a better trans than the NV-3500, It is about the same for overall strength, its quiter, and you can still get parts for it.

Apr 1, 2019 · GM put the NV 3500 behind LS engines (1999–2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2500LD). Gm put the NV4500 behind LS engines (2001–2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and 3500). Problem is they are HD truck trannies with a granny gear for 1st and the 2-3 gear change is huge. 5.61/3.44/1.71/1.00/0.73 Definitely not performance oriented.
