Apr 15, 2016 · I'm looking for recommendations for a mobile scanner antenna covering 150, 450 and 800 MHz (no low band/6M needed). I currently have an Austin, but am wondering what others are using. Like most people, don't want to put holes in the vehicle. Thanks, Gregg, N2UUP

Dec 1, 2023 · I'm playing with the idea of replacing it with a mobile scanner. Problem is all the scanners out there are too big to fit in the space my current radio is in, so I'd nee to do some more installation work. Look for opinions on if it's worth installing a mobile scanner, or just keeping my Anytone and grabbing a handheld scanner I can take with me.

Oct 30, 2024 · Could anyone give me some suggestions on antenna placement and general precautions to use when installing two mobile antennas on a vehicle: one for a scanner and the other for a 50W mobile amateur transceiver, most likely 2m/70cm. I want to make sure that the transceiver output doesn’t damage the receiver front end in the scanner.

What is the best "MOBILE" scanner antenna?
Nov 6, 2010 · I know this is a broad question but here is my situation. I have a Radio Shack Pro-2051 mobile scanner hooked to a Radio Shack mag-mount mobile scanner antenna (cat. #20-032) all on a 2007 Chevy Impala. It is starting to rust out where the element screws into the base so I will be replacing it.

Jan 15, 2025 · Eventually I sold off the TAD’s and was using a Kenwood dual-band ham rig. I started to drift away from GMRS but before I did, I had a couple Motorola Spectra’s (VHF and UHF) and even a UHF Moxy. I usually had a scanner or two, a VHF and UHF mobile radio (GM300’s replaced the Spectra’s and then CDM1250’s), and the Kenwood dual bander.

Dec 19, 2021 · It's difficult to find one single antenna that will cover -all- the capabilities of your scanner, so giving us an idea of what your particular interests are will help us recommend a good antenna. For most users, the multi-band NMO antennas are a good overall solution if you don't need VHF Low band coverage.

May 14, 2023 · That's not really an option in a mobile application. However, it does sound like your setup is working well. The periodic dropouts of the signal can be caused by a number of things. I don't think its 'picket fencing', as that would happen when you are moving, and it is usually pretty fast. Sounds more like a setting in the scanner.
