Just how bad is John Norman's Gor Series?
Nov 24, 2005 · Norman is just incredibly bad. I tried to read one of his novels (Fighting Slave of Gor) and had to give up after 20 pages. And mind you, I really like pulp fiction. I read some reviews who claim the earliest Gor novels (beginning with Tarnsman of Gor) are rather enjoyable and less obsessed with degradation of women than later in the series.

Nov 24, 2005 · For over 20 years. The selling price back then was about 2.50 to 3.00 $. In 2008 I packed up my household and prepared to move to Ireland. Hence I sold lots of things, and most of my (over 200) books. I put the Gor books up on ebay, separately.

Dec 6, 2007 · Of course, things could be worse: I once read the first book in John Norman's Gor series: Tarnsman of Gor. It was so thoroughly degrading I vowed never to read another one of his books. According to "Fantasy of the 20th Century" it gets worse as the series progresses. One wonders what deep-seated needs the author was trying to express.

Nov 24, 2005 · The Gor novels were put out, like most category SFF novels at the time, in mass market paperback. They were put out first by Ballantine Books, the mmpk arm of BDD at the time, and then by DAW books. They sold well during the late 1960's-1980's period as basically a cult following sort of series.

Aug 12, 2001 · I would class the books as SF, but you are correct... there are element of fantasy there. When I first began to read SF, Fantasy was just a few odd books... ie. Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, Conan, Gor, The Worm Oroborus and others.
Best order to read Ben Bova's Grand Tour novels?
Sep 21, 2008 · I've written on many pages of my books and put marks to make it easy to go back and find these clues. One thing though, even Ben Bova seems a bit confused as to the chronology. On his web site somewhere he claims that 'Venus' takes place the latest in time, yet in 'Mercury' they talk about the events from that book as being in the past.

Warhammer novels in order? | Science Fiction and Fantasy World
Nov 21, 2003 · Most of the books referenced above are set in a futuristic military-fantasy universe (the Warhammer 40000 series). For those readers who prefer a standard medeval flavor (albeit with the occasional musket or pistol), then I'd suggest the Gortrek & Felix books or the Witchhunter omnibus as a good place to start.
