May 20, 2015 · I've been researching, as many of us, and decided to build my own surface drive. I'm using a 16hp clone. I plan to use a 3.7" centrifugal extreme duty clutch from hilliard. Engagement will be 1100/1300 rpm. Bottom pulley will be a 5.5" pulley. I'll be using a bx vbelt. I've opted out of the traditional timing belt style setup.

Mar 11, 2017 · Built my own surface drive mud motor last year. Bought some plans off eBay for a 6.5hp build and then beefed everything up to handle a 13hp. Cut all my own parts with a 4.5 inch cut of wheel which added a ton of time to the build.
