Gene Wilder’s Wonka is actually great, Johnny Depp’s Wonka is pretty bad. Charlie in the ‘71 version has flaws, but still has a good heart. Charlie in 2005 is too perfect and therefore not as relatable. two different movies. I’m sorry, but the 1971 original version is far superior to Tim Burton’s soulless, poorly written remake.

It was to teach children and parents alike about how bad parenting can lead to not children and hence, bad adults, as well as a social commentary which Burton uses in the songs like with Mike Tevee’s punishment.
