In 1971, Henry Scripps Booth and a small group of concerned individuals, organized what would later become the Cranbrook House & Gardens Auxiliary with intentions to preserve, maintain and share the Booth’s historic manor home and forty acre estate.

Series IV: Writings (1908-1988, n.d.) contains Henry Booth’s writings. Henry Booth was a prolific writer. He wrote thousands of poems and psalms as well as short stories, plays, liturgies, letters, prayers, histories, essays and music.

Henry Booth, an architecture student of Eliel Saarinen at the University of Michigan, designed the building for his growing family, who moved into the house in 1927. While Thornlea’s design shows many European influences, the home’s architecture is decidedly unique.
