Benalla Art Gallery provides a number of avenues through which artists and curators can propose exhibitions, or be considered for inclusion in exhibitions curated by the Gallery.

The Benalla Art Gallery art collection spans three centuries of Australian art, from the early 19th century to the present day. The collection includes paintings, sculptures, works on paper, decorative arts and furniture reflecting European trends of the late 19th and early 20th century.

The artistic talents of Benalla and North East Victorian senior Art and Design students are celebrated as part of the annual SHOWCASE exhibition. The exhibition provides 2024 students from across the region the opportunity for artistic recognition in a public art space.

Nestled among three stunning exhibition galleries within the Benalla Art Gallery, Munro and Sargeant offers a menu which has a focus on local and seasonal wines and produce. Enjoy a lunch of the region’s finest foods or choose from the selection of cakes to have with coffee from local merchants.

On his return to Sydney he continued to paint while his sculpture practice grew. Major commissions of public sculpture included Vertex in Devonport in 1980, Leviathan at Play in Brisbane in 1984, and Paradisio for the Sydney Festival in 1999. Robertson-Swann was Head of Sculpture at the National Art School from 2009-2018.
