How do I know what size biscuit to use? - FineWoodworking
Sep 18, 2005 · At some point back in the dark ages, I took a board of about 6-8" and ran the blade along the edge at each of the 3 settings for biscuit size (0, 10, and 20). I then wrote the slot width above each cut. I still keep it with my biscuits so I can reference the minimum slot width for each size biscuit.

Dec 26, 2003 · The biscuit cutter is a Ryobi DBJ-50. It's about $50 or $60. There are 3 biscuit sizes, all are oval shaped. R1 is 16mm x 5mm; R2 is 20mm x 8mm; R3 is 26mm x 13mm. They are all slightly over 2mm thick. The biscuits are fairly expensive, like 8 cents each from Ryobi in jars of 100. They are patented, and I don't know if there's another source.

Mar 5, 2006 · I lay my pieces on the bench and look for places where there's a misalignment and mark those for a biscuit. Then, I mark the rest at 8" - 10" spacing. If you're making raised panels, make sure your biscuits are at least 2" - 3" away from the final edges. It's a major "aw shid" if you expose part of a biscuit when you cut the raised panels.

Jan 18, 2006 · to biscuit 1/2 inch stock you will need 1/8" spacers if using a tabletop to register your stock from. The 1/8" spacers go under the wood and make the biscuits come out in the middle. Also, 1/2" will only accept 0 size biscuits or they will pop out from the opposite side of your slot. aloha, mike

Still, this particular example showed that the inherent structural strength of biscuits is in the same league as traditional mortise and tenon joints.

But the reason you want it is that it has a plastic attachment that slips onto the fence, and is exactly the size of a biscuit, and is intended for exactly what you're looking for: double-biscuiting.
