Mar 26, 2008 · Inspected a house yesterday built in 1945. As you can see by the pictures, there was white mold in various places in the crawl space. What is perplexing is that it is only on the plywood not the joists. It is a dry mold. The crawl space was extremely dry to the point that the soil was like powder.

This is a small bedroom addition onto a 1950's home. It was built in 1995. The ground had this with crystal-like stuff covering it.

Jun 7, 2013 · I looked for evidence of heavy mold but didn't see any. Light mold is easily covered by Kilz, but you can often see the evidence of heavy mold even through the Kilz. After considering the comments here, I wonder if there was a flood in the past (the rusted steel posts) and someone decided to spray Kilz as a preventive or to seal light mold.

Feb 13, 2012 · Matt, taking return air from a sealed and insulated crawl space is fine. It actually makes the house more comfortable during the heating season. It is a problem if you have gas fired appliances (a furnace) in the space or the vent lines from the furnace running thru the space.
