May 10, 2021 · The TT-33 is chambered for the 7.62x25 Tokarev, the hottest of the .30 caliber bottleneck cartridges. Its performance surpasses the 7.65 Luger (introduced 1898) and 7.63 Mauser (introduced 1896). Both the Luger and the Mauser rounds feature a 0.309-inch bullet while the Tokarev’s bullet is 0.308 inch.

The TT-33 (Tula-Tokarev) pistol was designed by Fedor Tokarev in 1933 and was an improved model of his earlier TT-30 (designed 1930). They are chambered in 7.62x25mm Tokarev, the same caliber as the PPSH-41 and later the PPS-43.
The Tokarev was designed in Russia in 1920. Although it is mechanically based on the Colt Model 1911, it differs in appearance. The new pistol gave officers and soldiers a more efficient sidearm, that could be fired and loaded faster than its aging revolver counterpart. The Tokarev 7.6x25mm round also had excellent penetration, which found favor among frontline troops.
