History – 48th Highlanders of Canada
The 48th Highlanders of Canada was founded in 1891, when the Toronto Scottish community succeeded in their efforts to have a Highland regiment in their young city. The Regiment has remained a Militia (Reserve) infantry regiment located in downtown Toronto ever since.
About Us – 48th Highlanders of Canada
The Regiment fought with distinction in Canada’s major 20th-century wars. Since the 1990s, many Highlanders have served overseas on Canadian military operations, including Cyprus, Bosnia and other parts of the former Republic of Yugoslavia, Sudan, and Afghanistan. Some 48th may well be deployed overseas today.

The Pipes and Drums of the 48th Highlanders were on the first parade of the Regiment in 1891. Since then, they have been recognized as one of Canada’s pre-eminent musical organizations.

The Association exists to preserve the bonds of comradeship among Highlanders; to foster, maintain and promote the traditions and well-being of the 48th Highlanders of Canada; and to generate pride and ésprit de corps among the Regimental Family.
