While not the speaker’s intended use-case, this was clear in 2 channel music playback.

Dec 14, 2001 · The M&K S150 speakers are -2 db at 77Hz and the Atlantic Technology 450 system mains are -3db at 80Hz. Now, I am not buying a THX system, but the speakers I will be using (M&K S-125's) have the same 3db point as the S-150's...77Hz. Now, it seems the THX speakers have a fairly high -3db point for being crossed over at 80Hz (per THX processor spec).

Feb 1, 2006 · I am wanting to wire for THX Ultra 2 and 7.1 which I think are the same (feel free to correct that sentiment) When i look at the speaker placements on the THX web site it shows the surrounds to the sides of the primary seating area and the rears straight back side by side.

Nov 9, 1999 · I currently have 2 of these systems in my storage area and need to move them out. The subwoofer is a 12" long throw and designed by Dr Hsu. It kicks. There are also 2 mains, 1 CC, and 2 surround speakers. These speakers are a large "book shelf" type of design and are THX Ultra certified.

Nov 25, 2003 · i just took a listen to the thx speaker setup on the AOTC DVD. even though i do not have an ex setup, when the test went to set the rear speakers it filled the area behind me with the sound coming from the side surrounds. how can i get this effect without having to go and upgrade to a 7.1...

Dec 13, 1999 · At that time Altec-Lansing had a full THX speaker set, and Kenwood had a THX processor and amp. The demo was in a room about 7 X 9 feet. It was a real thrill! Can't say how much the MTM design contributed to the great sound, but the 3 THX pre-processing circuits sure made the T2 demo much better, as did the dual 10 inch subwoofer.

May 31, 2005 · I ran the THX optimizer that come in the dvd's (Signs. I seem to have a problem when it cycled through the sound test. The sound worked ok while it cycled through the front but it never reached the back speakers. When i use the sound test on my receiver it worked fine. What could be wrong?

Personally, I think speaker design reached a point of diminishing returns in the mid-to-late 80's (especially because laser interferometry became widespread around that time). Nowadays it's just a matter of fixing nit-picky & tiny sonic aberrations that only show up on test equipment.

Jan 12, 2004 · If a speaker is set to "large" its low bass content will not be sent to the subwoofer output. Remember this! AVIA's subwoofer tests are on the main channels. If a particular channel is set to large, then that channel's AVIA test tone is not routed to the subwoofer (just like low bass on that channel is not routed to the subwoofer).
