Jun 26, 2024 · I don't think (m)any people dislike Alex Morgan and I don't think anyone is "overly happy" that she didn't make the squad; it's more people are relieved, especially in light of the 2023 WWC loss narrative of Andonovski's insistence on relying Morgan and Rapinoe in lieu of promising young players that got literally zero minutes.

I like Alex Morgan and she is one of the all time best players, but I understand why she was initially left off the roster. And no, she wasn’t left off to give new players a chance; it’s the gold cup and also the Olympics are a few months away, the players they want to take to the Olympics were called up initially.

Might be an unpopular opinion but Alex Morgan isn’t on the field to score all the goals. Yeah, I know she’s a forward but her best role, for about the last 5-6 years, is to pull defenders out of position and open up and create chances for others. She’s probably the best on the team at this.

Alex went through the same thing in 2011 with World Cup final loss and she was a better person after that and propel the US program to new heights. It’s now time for the young group to make that impact.
