The different types of orders (column plus entablature) are illustrated by these diagrams, from Perseus: Doric order, and Ionic order. The Doric order is characterized by the series of triglyphs and metopes on the entablature.

Below you will find a diagram of the five Roman Orders of Architecture showing each order's column and a portion of its entablature structure above it. A column is made up of a long shaft plus the capital above and the base supports below the shaft, such as the torus and plinth.

This latter element consists of the architrave, frieze and cornice. Here the frieze carries triglyphs (with vertical grooves) and between them sculpted metopes.
