The city of Aiken held a public information drop-in to allow residents a chance to offer feedback on a replacement for the Fairfield Street Bridge which closed in 2016.

It’s been nearly a decade since the South Carolina Department of Transportation closed the Fairfield Street Bridge—but city leaders are starting off the new year with efforts to get it reopened.

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - On Tuesday in Aiken, neighbors provided input on the Fairfield Street Bridge replacement project. Back in 2016, SCDOT announced the bridge’s closure after a routine inspection showed it was deteriorating. Last Jan. the city council approved for the bridge to be replaced.
