Bundle up. The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory for the Lansing region that begins at midnight.

The entire region is under a Cold Weather Advisory until Wednesday morning. This includes Auglaize, Butler, Champaign, Clark, Clinton, Darke, Greene, Logan, Mercer, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, Shelby, and Warren counties in Ohio. The advisory is also in effect for Randolph, Union, and Wayne counties in Indiana.

A potent surge of Arctic air starts settling in Monday evening as a massive dip in the jet stream pulls in frigid air across the entire eastern half of the country. Temperatures are set to drop as low as 20 degrees below average through Thursday with the highs only reaching the teens and some lows even plunging below zero.

An Extreme Cold Warning - the first one of its kind for Michigan - has been issued for the western section of the Upper Peninsula. It’s a section of the state where the wind chill has already plummeted to 40 degrees below zero in at least one spot today, and daytime high temperatures will struggle to get above zero on Monday and Tuesday.

The Marquette NWS office said wind chills in some areas could reach 44 below zero early in the week and residents should prepare.
