John Dramani Mahama was sworn in for a second term as Ghana's president on Tuesday at a ceremony in the capital Accra, pledging to overcome public discontent by boosting the economy and creating much-needed jobs.

A trending video has captured the moment John Mahama mistakenly referred to Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu as the “President of Ghana” during his inauguration ceremony today, January 7. Mahama, 65, has officially been sworn in as Ghana’s president, succeeding Nana Akufo-Addo.

Ghana on Tuesday swore in president-elect John Mahama in the capital Accra before some 20 regional leaders as he promises to lift the West African gold and cocoa producer out of the doldrums.

John Mahama will be sworn in on Tuesday as Ghana’s president for the third time, as the country faces its worst economic crisis in a generation.

Mr John Mahama was also the fourth President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, having previously occupied the high office of the President between January 7, 2013, and January 6, 2017. He’s Ghana’s first president under the 4th Republic to have lost an election and returned to the seat after contesting two more elections with a landslide victory.
