California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an emergency proclamation on Wednesday in response to growing concerns over bird flu cases in the state and across the country.

A statement from Newsom's office called the move "proactive action to strengthen robust state response" to H5N1.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency Wednesday to streamline and expedite the state’s response to Avian influenza A, commonly known as Bird Flu. The proclamation comes after cases of the bird flu were detected in dairy cows on farms in Southern California.
