Hi, We stayed in a hotel close to the train station in Cusco so we decided to take the train right from there. It is a longer journey and the first part is a lot of switchbacks! But we really enjoyed that part of it. We left on the 7 o’clock train, you will arrive in time to do Machu Picchu that day if you wish. On the way back to Cusco we traveled on the train and then bus from Ollantaytambo this way you do get to see more of the countryside. Enjoy your trip,it was just fabulous for us.
