Xcacel, for snorkeling, near Tulum I’ve snorkeled at most of the places they say have good snorkeling from shore in the Riviera Maya. Most of them are greatly lacking in fish, and the fish there are… Full review by H2376YFchristians

While the other beaches were filled with seaweed, we came here for a perfect swim. There’s no shade on the beach so bring an umbrella if you want shade. Full review by Los-Angenlos

The very long entrance road is a disaster area, large craters, looks like it's been bombed. The beach was full of piles of sargassum, and the staff made no effort to clean it. There were 2 guys that … Full review by robertmP5949YI

They were doing a cleanup of it June/July. It was becoming misused by locals and garbage everywhere (& plenty coming in from the ocean as well), tourists I’m sure also left garbage. With those winds it’s hard to even hang on to food packages. Literally you’d step somewhere and you’d be stepping on a plastic fork or bottle cap. I even saw a syringe needle hiding in a crevice of a log once. Sad. Anyway, my hubby and I were there this morning. Very little of the beach depth is there anymore, when we first came 8-9 years ago it was amazing, big, no seaweed. Now there’s barely any beach left, immense amounts of seaweed which they don’t do cleanup of (or much) since it is officially now a Sanctuary status park/beach. The water is extremely rough and majority of it is red flag except for a small yellow flag area to the very far left point. We just went for 2hrs today, couldn’t get an unbrella up due to the winds and just felt sand blasted. They are finally protecting it, has a gate, is closed every Monday. It used to cost $20pesos per person, it’s now $81pesos per person regardless of your mode of transport. You used to be able to take food and drink, now you can but the now large sign at the road states ‘no bottles’ ‘no processed foods’. The road in is still awful as usual. I don’t imagine we’ll be going back again, likely ever. I won’t go in those waters even at the yellow flag part and I consider myself a strong distance swimmer (I can snorkel for 2+hrs in choppy waters). Saw families with little kids and their mini boogie boards walking past coming in, I wouldn’t dare let even a 15 year old in, personally. They also left before we did. Strong experienced swimmers ONLY. The waters are not the sanctuary’s fault, that’s global warming...they have red flagged it for very good valid reasons. :( I say save your $81pesos per person and go to Xel-Ha or something else touristy, if you’re a young family anyway.
