Best way to get there was by boat, which cost about 70 reais from Abraão to Pouso beach. It's also one of the easiest destinations to go, considering the amount of companies offering this route. Betw… Full review by Odyssey31484218782

A lovely beach tucked away and only accessible by boat and foot. So natural and unspoiled but some garbage that people had left it’s so sad there is someone that would do that. The water was clear an… Full review by Nancy R

Beautiful beach. Waves gorgeous. Definitely go here if you are at Ihla Grande, Brazil. Need to do a short hike in. or you can take an alternative road-like way in which takes a longer time. Either w… Full review by wal-26

it's going to take you an entire day to get there. The cheapest way is to take a bus to Angra dos Reis and a boat from there to the island. If you do not speak Portuguese, do not take "shortcuts". I was born and raised in RJ and this is the best advice I can give you.
Hello, I have some questions for you about IIha Grande. We are staying in Rio, during carnival, but we will be in Rio for a total of 9 days. We have a group of 8 adults. I have read some things about taking a tour to IIha Grande, but not sure which one or which part of the island to visit. Some of the tours do not mention if you get to relax on the beach. Do you recommend taking a tour or getting our own private boat? Which parts of the island should we go to? I have learned that there are many. We like relaxing on the beach, snorkeling, drinking, and eating lol... Is there a water taxi we can take once one the island to get around to other parts? About how much R$ does it cost for a water taxi? And finally do you know if its worth taking the ferry?

hi Sean, I can't much help with your questions to be honest. We booked a transfer from Rio with Green Toad bus company, it included the boat crossing from Jacarei and was all pretty good. We didn't do any private tours on the island or hire a boat. We stayed in Abraao and did hikes from there to beaches on the east of the island. We took a water taxi back from Mango beach (I think) which is a short walk from Lopez Mendez (boats can't get to that one due to the surf). Touts were selling taxi boat tickets it was all quite easy, I forget to cost but seemed reasonable. If you want to see the rest of the island and given the size of your group it's probably worth a private hire. If you base in Abraao that will be easy to arrange. Unless you're going in he hight of season there should be no bed to make too many arrangements before you arrive, it's all fairly easy going! Good luck, hope you have a great trip Rachel
