We did the Upper Hawksbill Trail - started at Upper Hawksbill Parking (MP 46, right near the Old Rag Overlook). Took us about 30-45 minutes each way, with pauses for resting and also determining whether the bear(s) we saw were too close for us to continue.

Waynesboro isn’t bad, but I’d try to get closer to Luray so that you’ll be more in the center of the park and the Drive, rather than down at the southern end.
