An amazing half-day trip to see the giant 'hole in rock'. Includes an exciting cable car ride up and down with stunning views. A walk around forests at the top, with more stunning outlooks. The lon… Full review by onurbauckland

What a marvellous piece of nature this is. We went there twice. On our first visit, we took line A and explored the national park all the way to the temple. Tianmen temple may be a long walk, but it'… Full review by saraaY310QE

Tehe view is magnificent. However, if you have knee pain, it's going to be hell. Going up and down so many stairs can be hard on the knees. That day, I walked more than 10,000 steps. Quite a workout. Full review by luckyishappy7

Could we take this half a day tour starting from 2-3 PM?
A:
No as you won’t see much.
Q:
Hi, is it possible to take the cable car both up and down? I’d probably get sick if I take that bus down. Thanks!

We are just back from a 10 days trip to Very Beautiful Hokkaido. Yes, you could take the return via a cable car from Tianmen Mountain - but you probably need to take a reverse route / back track to get back to the cable car station. Remember, the cable car station is not here, but the other side of the mountain. Book your tickets in advance from the starting point. It may be troublesome & very tiring to backtrack, if you already walk the 999 steps down Tianmen Mountain, now its another 999 steps up the very steep mountain, unless again, you booked the lifts & rides all at the same time. We in our 60's could not manage these climbs, let alone some members in the late 70's. But to take in the views, stopping for photography, up close with the waterfalls & the faces of the tourist who managed these challenging climbs, the tendency of tiredness were all forgotten., when victory of achievement of some sort - to reaching the top of the climb. Enjoy but remember check very carefully & book in advance.

The most impressive walk is what I believe they call the West Walk. Its to the right of the cable car once you get to the top; going this way takes you counter-clockwise around the mountain. Be sure to take its glass walkway on this side after which you go down some stairs then you go along the backside of the mountain with stunning mountain and valley scenery that reminds me of Hawaii believe it or not. You'll have to buy a separate ticket for the glass walkway but its worth it. Remember not to look down for the first 5 or 6 steps so the mind becomes convinced that its solid under your feet, then you can look down and can handle it (I'm afraid of heights). Its best to walk all the way around the mountain on the outside hanging over the cliffs as much as you can if you have the time. If you have to cut your trip short, walk up at least to the start of the long bridge, then you can leave.

Q:
If I have limited time, would you recommend visiting the Tianmen mountain in Zhangjiajie OR the Avatar mountains in Wulingyuan area? Which is more spectacular?
A:
I recommend going to the Avatar mountains first and then the Tianmen Mountains.
