We visited in July. Loved it. Saw re enactment with the trains and spike. 150th anniversary year. Walked the Big Fill Loop Trail and took one of the auto tours. The longer one was closed. Wondered if it was open now as we plan to visit again this year.

It was not open when we were there in September but I believe it it for the annual re-enactment celebration. Guess a phone call to the park or a visit to the website may answer better.
About how much time does it take to drive each of the Auto drives (2mile East and 7 Mile West)? Is it a drive by, or are there stops along the way? Thanks for your help.

No interactive exhibits, depends on the child if it holds their attention, yes you can see the engines close up, yes you can get in without a high clearance vehicle, allow at least an hour.

My recollection is definitely one if not two of the trains are recreations. It was worth seeing the steam and coal fire coming up. You can walk up and look into the engine. It is a long drive to get out there though.
