What a tremendous place to drive for fall color. We, unfortunately, had to make the drive in cloudy and rainy weather due to a traveling time table. Even in those conditions, it was great Full review by Chuck2010

The river is a popular camping destination and swimming hole. Portions are paralleled by grave roads but access points are pretty limited. Float potential is good if you plan ahead.. Full review by Doug K

Take Highway 145 north from Cortez, through Dolores, Stoner and Rico. The road parallels the Dolores River throughout.

You can try hwy 491 which used to be hwy 666 (depends on how old your map is) , its about 10 miles north of Cortez. Check your map again.. Thanks Texas..
