I can't say for sure since our hosts paid for our tickets. I know you must have a ticket to enter the plantation house, but I think you can walk around the grounds (gardens and cemeteries) without purchasing a ticket since those areas are not tour related. I hope this helps.
So for 2 adults and 2 children to visit the trio of houses it would cost $48 for the kids and $90 for us for the discounted 3 houses ticket - so that's $138! It 's not affordable for us to visit more than 1 place with the two kids.

In addition to Carnton, I recommend Rippaville in Spring Hill TN. It is a farmhouse out in the open, where Gen Hood (CSA) stayed overnight as his army headed toward Franklin.There is a museum there. It was not open the day, a month ago, when i was there,because it was too early (9am). Your children would be interested, I think in the open area with signposts telling the story of the South camping over night a few hundred feet from an Ohio company, watching the much larger army of the South. More importantly the Southern forces failed to cut the nearby road and the Northern Army under Gen Schofield escaped during the night right by the encamped Southern forces.If you go to Rippaville, ask if Chuck is there. He dresses in a Southern uniform and is the curator there. Very interesting.
